Letter From The Owners – November

In recent years, Aly and I had been planning a trip to Oscoda, MI, to connect with Joe and Pam Brinn, former owners of Thunder Roads Michigan Magazine, but our plans always seemed to fall through. It was truly wonderful that we finally had the chance to meet them at the Pentagon Service Monument, which features laser-etched murals, displays of US Military equipment, a Circle of Flags, and various other monuments honoring our veterans.

The cover of last November’s magazine held a special significance for me as it commemorated my mom’s husband, a retired Navy veteran who passed away earlier that year. This year, we pay tribute to Joe, a Vietnam Veteran who continues to serve his community. Joe tirelessly promotes the Oscoda Veterans Memorial Park and works on initiatives to raise funds for its ongoing vision, growth, and maintenance. When I contacted Joe about doing a photo shoot with his 7/17 Air Cavalry Vietnam Tribute bike, named “Ruthless Rider,” he promptly agreed and said he would coordinate with his son to bring it over. Our only responsibility was to meet Joe Jr. on time; we arrived early, but he was even earlier, ready to present the Ruthless Rider at our designated spot. Shortly afterward, Joe and Pam arrived, and we exchanged quick greetings before diving into our work.

I must say, this was one of my favorite photo shoots to date. It was filled with purpose, friendship, family, and honor. Sometimes, it can be a sobering experience to see monuments dedicated to the veterans who sacrificed so much for our country. However, we must never stop honoring them and never forget their contributions. Thank you, Joe, for your service, and thanks to all who have served and continue to serve.

Happy Thanksgiving!
