Every year about this time, we all find ourselves staring at the calendar and counting the days until riding weather… Lol, whenever that officially is. Well, Punxsutawney Phil, likes to think he personally controls the throttle on spring. That little groundhog pops his head out, looks around, and somehow manages to mess with the emotions of every motorcyclist in Michigan. Six more weeks of winter? Phil, buddy… we’ve already had a loooong six months.
As riders, we live for that first real break in the weather. You know the one. It stars with a grin, sun shining, roads mostly clear, and just enough warmth to convince us it’s time to roll. Then the next day? Snow. Or 30 degrees and sideways wind. It’s like Phil and Mother Nature are flipping a coin just to see how many of us will drag the bike out of the garage too early.
But here’s the good news, we made it. Another Michigan winter is soon behind us. That deserves a round of applause for every rider who showed discipline… or at least good judgment. Congratulations to those who spent the downtime upgrading, planning routes, cleaning chrome that didn’t need cleaning, or scrolling through past ride photos just to feel something again. And to the smart ones who escaped south for a mid-winter throttle therapy session, we respect your commitment to mental health!
Winter might test our patience, but it also builds anticipation. The days are getting longer. The sun feels a little warmer. The salt is slowly disappearing with early showers, and we’ll take every drop if it means washing the last of winter off the pavement. April showers? If they come sooner, even better.
Swap meet season is just about wrapped up. The treasure hunts, the unexpected finds, the deals you swore you weren’t going to make but absolutely did, that was our way of staying connected while the bikes rested. Now it’s time to bolt on the new parts, top off the tanks, and get ready.
Because if the early signs we had in February are any indication, this summer is shaping up to be one hell of a year for all of us. Big events, great rides, strong community, and miles of Michigan Thunder Roads waiting to be reclaimed.
So, thanks, Phil, for the emotional rollercoaster. We’ll take it from here.
See you on the road,
RJ & Aly
