As many of you may know, RJ surprised me with my dream bike, a 2018 Harley-Davidson Anniversary Street Glide Special in Legend Blue. The color is important. I’ve wanted this bike since it was released in 2018. I first laid eyes on it while we were down at Daytona bike week, and I almost made an impulse buy, but…I didn’t. Instead, I came home with regret. I bought a Harley-Davidson Road King later that year, but the Street Glide was the bike that slipped through my fingers. Once he realized how badly I wanted that very specific motorcycle, RJ started looking. Jon, who works at Holeshot H-D, knows that RJ has spent the last 5 years searching for that bike, and so have others in that time, but they all kept coming up empty-handed. It seemed that if one was found, it would be in poor shape, or it would be sold, or it would be on the other side of the country, and they wouldn’t hold it. It just seemed like the timing was never right! Well, not this time!
I didn’t even realize they were still looking or how hard they were looking until RJ surprised me with it on Friday, May 3rd. Originally, I had given RJ a ride to the dealership to pick up “his” new bike, unknowingly of the surprise in store. When I saw it at the dealership, Jon told me it belonged to a customer who was coming to pick it up. They let me circle and drool over it for a minute before RJ told me thatI was the customer taking it home. I didn’t believe him until I realized he was recording me the whole time. That’s when it hit me, this really was my bike! As RJ would say, June is my “Birthday Month”, so happy early birthday to me! And yes, I might be a little spoiled.
So that’s why he gets to take a break from writing this month’s letter from the owners- lol.
June is my favorite month of the year, and not just because it’s my “Birthday Month”, but because it also marks the start of rally season for us. The Rendezvous Rally up at Byce’s Michihistrigan Campground in Gould City, MI, that takes place on Father’s Day weekend each year, is my favorite! Then there’s Bike Bash, at the Ogemaw County Fairgrounds in West Branch, June 20th – 22nd. And that might actually be my favorite. But then there’s the Great Lakes HOG Rally up in Marquette, Michigan, and I’ve never been to that one, but I’m sure it will be my favorite too. You get my point?
As I wrap this up, I want to say thank you RJ, for always thinking about me and putting me first. I really do love my new-to-me motorcycle, and I can’t wait to show it off this summer.
